The bong downstem is the tube that channels smoke from your bong bowl down into the water in your base. It's where filtration actually starts. Smoke hits the water through slits at the bottom of the downstem and breaks into bubbles that cool and clean each pull before it reaches you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are bong downstems universal?
No. They come in different joint sizes (most commonly 14mm and 18mm) and different lengths. A bong downstem that's too long will hit the bottom of your base and restrict airflow. Too short and it won't reach the water. Ours fit 18mm base joints and accept 14mm bowls. That’s the standard configuration for most of our setups.
How do I know what size downstem my bong needs?
Measure from the bottom of the ground glass joint (where the downstem sits in the base) to where you want it to end inside the bong. That’s usually ½” above the bong base floor. Then check the joint diameter. Both our downstems are sized to fit a VITAE base without any measuring.
What else should I consider to choose the right downstem?
Slit pattern matters most. More slits and more complex patterns (like the Matrix) translate to finer bubbles and smoother filtration. They can also add a bit of drag, though. The Slitted Downstem is a cleaner, more open pull. Comes down to whether you prioritize smoothness or airflow speed.
Should my downstem touch the bottom of my bong?
No. Leave about a ½” of space between the bottom of the bong downstem and the base floor. If it's sitting on glass, you risk cracking it when you set the bong down or bump the bowl. That gap also lets water circulate freely around the slits for better diffusion.
